Meditation

“Meditation is the spring from which God’s peace flows into your soul.” – Paramahansa Yogananda

At the heart of the teachings of Self-Realization Fellowship and Paramahansa Yogananda is the science of meditation.  The word yoga itself means “union”: of the individual consciousness with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit.  When practiced regularly, the simple techniques of yoga meditation taught by Paramahansa Yogananda lead unfailingly to deeper levels of spiritual awareness and perception.  Since yoga is based on practice and experience rather than on adherence to a particular set of beliefs, followers of all religions can benefit from these techniques.  They may be learned through the SRF Lessons sent by mail for personal study from the Mother Center in Los Angeles, California.  Applications are available on our free literature table or online at: www.yogananda.org

If you have not yet enrolled for the Lessons, basic instructions on how to meditate can be found on the SRF website which you can use right away to begin experiencing the peace and communion with the Divine that meditation brings. Follow this link: A Beginner’s Meditation

Raja Yoga – The highest, surest method of Self-Realization

Raja Yoga is the royal or highest path of Yoga, formally systematized in the second century B.C. by the Indian sage Patanjali.  At the heart of the Raja Yoga system is the practice of definite, scientific methods of meditation that enable one to perceive, from the very beginning of one’s efforts, glimpses of the ultimate goal—conscious union with the inexhaustibly blissful Spirit.  Such methods are an integral part of the Self-Realization Fellowship teachings.
